Lascaux Caves

The Lascaux Caves were discovered in 1940 and contain several hundred Paleolithic paintings depicting various animals. It is estimated that the paintings are 17,000 to 22,000 years old.

Ogham Script

The Ogham script is an alphabet developed in the 4th century AD (possibly earlier) and used to write both the early Irish (4th-6th century AD) and old Irish (6th-9th century AD) language. Evidence of its use from the early era survives today in about 400 stone monuments in Ireland and Western Britain. The monuments were likely used to record names or land ownership. It is not known with certainty the motivation behind the invention.

Runes

Runes are the letters of sets of alphabets associated with Germanic people and were developed around 150 AD. Runes were ultimately replaced by Latin alphabet as the Christian faith took root.
